Best bait and tactics of late!

Standard float fishing and ledgering techniques work well on the Iona Bait Pool all year round. Worm, maggot and sweetcorn or Power Bait can all be used to terrific effect.
Tactics lately have varied depending on the conditions on the day.
The water is still fishing really well with some very nice healthy specimens getting caught & lost & the water itself is very clear at the moment!
Fish are occasionally taking straight off the bottom, but generally they are taking in the top 2 feet off the float.
Favourite Baits have been worms or various coloured Power Baits, depending on the weather conditions.

1.) All fishery visitors should first check in at the fishery office prior to going near the water.
2.) Bait fishing only. Stricktly NO spinning.
3.) Allowed baits include live maggot, worms, wasp grubs, corn, preformed manufactured immitation grubs & worms and also Powerbait types.
4.) No Swim Feeders or ground baiting.
5.) Single hooks only, No double, trebles or tandems.
6.) Max of 1 hook on a cast.
7.) Only 1 rod per angler allowed to be used at any time.
8.) Minimum of 6lb cast to be used.
9.) Stricktly no catch & returning fish. No selective fishing. You must keep & quickly dispatch the fish you catch, up to your permit limit. No keep nets allowed.
10.) Maximum of 2 non anglers with each permit holder. ie: 1 permit holder plus partner & 1 child. We restrict the amount of rods on the bait pool at any time to allow plenty of free space.
